Why today I have no idea. Maybe 'tis because 28 is the 2nd Perfect Number. So ... my choice , now that I'm on my last legs, I'd rather have a funny bird book rather than ...er ... all the other sorts. At Death's Door what you want is some/anything to laugh about. SO ... I'm picking two companion books ... here they are ... they've been on here before ..somewhere or other ... at one time or another ... but there's only one of them pictured here...... ..and the other one, also authored by Chris Harbard seems to have no pics of it on t'internet at all. It is called " Evenings at the Coot & Corncrake." I can recommend them heartily ... and brainly ... and enertaintingly .... and funly. Isn't English a strange langwidge !? I've got more bird books by the way... here's my 12" best-bird-books-bookshelf ! ..and here's they some of them staring right at you wondering what's going on ! ..a bit later, due to Cohas Teorhy, they were more like this .... ..but enough of all this firvoltily ... I'm orf in tarn 2 bi a bok ! Hey ..what about the music?

Couldn't resist photographing this ... it was awash with birds ! Here's some quizzly-whizzly questions all about British Bird Songs & Calls. [1] Bill Oddie's Little Black Bird Book gives some sound advice as to which woodland species is making any unfamiliar calls. Which species is it ? [2] Who first recognised that Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff are separate species, based on their song ? [3] To the accompaniment of which bird did Beatrice Harrison famously play the cello in Oxted, Surrey in the 1930's ? [4] Which garden bird was first heard in the UK in the 1950's ? [5] Which British bird is named 'Kluut' in Dutch after its distinctive call note ? [6] Name three regular British breeding species with onomatopoeic English names. [7] What links Starling, Sedge Warbler, Red-backed Shrike and Marsh Warbler ? [9] Which British bird's song, delivered in flight, consists of several croaking noises followed by a thin sneeze-like note ? [10] Only recorded here once, which American bird was singing when it was discovered in Paisley in June 1977 ? Time for a spot of music ....... Nena Daconte ... " Ay Amor" That drippy bloke on the right is famous poet Wavely Newt. ( Who, in "real life" is ME ) As you all know, at the end of each 100 posts I collect all the "verses" I've scribbled and then you have the luxury of being able to marvel at their wonderfulness...... go on then, have a trawl through that lot ! 200-all-my-stupid-bird-poems-in-one-place.html 300-another-collection-of-my-ridiculous-poems.html 400-the-latest-round-up-of-my-crap-verses.html 500-yet-another-rotten-ragbag-of-rancid-rhymes.html 600-lots-of-my-poems-from-posts-501-to-600.html 700-more-rollicking-rhymes-about-dicky-birds.html 801-bog-roll-babylon.html 900-yet-another-interminable-ragbag-of-versification.html 1000-yet-another-collection-of-my-poems-from-900-1000.html 1099-more-poetry-from-1000-1099.html And soon it will be the 1200th post ..so I'd better get going with a few more......... [1] The Robin don't rhyme with anything except, of course, the Sanderling, but hang on, there's the Jenny Wren who sleeps inside her spherical den. [2] A mysterious bird is the Jar of the Night it's sudden appearance can give you a fright. Many years ago I watched one all day (!) asleep on an RSPB feeding tray. [3] Sandy, Beds , have you ever been there ? We went there once, for a look. The staff were clueless, but they didn't care They couldn't separate Crow from Rook ! [4] I met that Simon King at Leighton Moss with his entourage of halfwits who all behaved like total gits and didn't give a bloody toss ! [5] I think I should write a longer poem with a serious point to show-em ! I could write about feathers in all sorts of weathers and explain the purpose of phloem! [6] The Capercaillie's hard to spell I've never managed to do it well And freekuently ive spelld it rong And much too short or far too long If YOU can't spell it, then try the Wren You're mutch more liekly too dooit then. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But now, the music ... good stuff ....
