It was a remarkable day for many Lancashire birders ... which I was at the time . We all trundled along to the Blind Home in Blackpool to "get" a Med Gull. I suspect I was driving the mini .... which is where the " mini-birding" title of this blog came from. A Med Gull ? What's special about them ? Well, back in 1986 they were very rare up there ..... for many of us, a first. It very kindly showed up, perching on the roof for long periods, and doing a bit of flying around. Little did we know that it would become fairly unremarkable ... it's on my house list.. just the one. That one up there in the picture wasn't it though ... it's a much more recent one I "got" whilst doing another gripping Common Gull Count ... a welcome bonus bird. I was young then. Oh dear !! A "rare" day ......
