Aha ! The Beautiful Bangor Pier Day Two was mostly directed by The Significant Otter. And that means piers. Despite that, I got, at last, a single Swallow ! I told you they were scarce. We went to two different beach eateries and drinkeries, there's loads of them, and intense scrutiny revealed 5 distant cormorants, and 3 Tern sp. about 700 miles away. Beware of the Ferocious Herring Gulls. We strolled through Bangor where we both spent our University years. The best bookshop has been demolished ! Razed to the ground. Bangor Pier was a priority (see above) ... good for birding, but not today. ( 3 House Martins) . Then Llandudno Pier ... but it was so crammed up with visitors, we couldn't get onto it. And Llandudno itself was packed to the gills with what seemed like the entire population of Wales. I mopped up a few passerines in the bushes, a selection of Larids on the sea, etc etc, but nothing galvanising. Then to Colwyn Pier ... which fell into disrepair and was demolished .... but now it has been restored to an amazingly remarkable edifice ! That's it. And its not even open ... its all fenced off. Bah !! Note the total absence of any birds. Or people. Or any sort of mammal. Except, of course, us. The music is obvious ... Seddi Gwag, ( empty seats) performed live on Bangor Pier by Huw M and, presumably, his young lady ... It's rather strange when you're more swizzled by what you haven't seen rather than what you have !
