Well, for a start, there's different sorts of " Bird Book." I/d books, beginner's books, twitching books, fictional tales, individual species books, behaviour books, breeding atlases, wintering atlases, migration research books, garden bird books, expeditions books, poetry books .... Each of which must, of course, contain a "worst" example. So ... for this 1st "go" I'm going to give you my opinion on just 1 category ... the fictional bird book. So ... have a think for a while .... before I show you my "pick" and tell you exactly why I think it is the absolute worst ..... and see if you come up with your own opinion. And take care ... this is a serious thing to do . So that you won't see what my choice is, we'll have the music spot now .... ... and here's the "words" video for it .... And now, the book you've been waiting to see ... This is, I hope, a made-up, fictional account of a cut-throat, no-holds-barred year-listing twitchfest, which is all very well, but, in my humble opinion, is very badly done. The whole spectrum of terrible behaviour is in there, and precious little of any birding interest at all, except if all you want is people glued to their phones all day and night, racing off to remote locations , fornicating at every opportunity,ticking-and-running in their conquests as well as their birding, ruining their own social lives/relationships/marriages and other people's as well, and on top of all that, there's various errors in it, and it's not even well written.
And yet ... on Amazon, lots of people seem to love it. Well, it takes all sorts. Hey-ho ! In the fulness of time, I'll be "visiting" lots of those other categories and showing you what I reckon is the bottom of the heap in each one. If you have any other choices which might be on a par with that one, or worse, I would love to hear about them, not just in the "fiction" category but any of the others. At the very least, it might save some of us the expense of buying them, as well as the tedium of reading them.
