Purely by chance I got to hear this morning's " Tweet of the Day." This one got my attention because the bird for today was a "Jeep" ! Here's a picture ...... can you work out what it is, and why it is called the "Jeep" ? Here's what the BBC Sounds thingy had to say about it ... except I've replaced the "species" with its nickname for the moment.. In the last of five recollections about his encounters with birds in Antarctica, wildlife cameraman Doug Allan recalls his encounters with Jeeps with mixed feelings as he recalls their baleful stare, steely grey blue eyes and predatory intent! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well .. it was that last bit that got my attention ... he was describing what vicious and efficient predators they were, often getting covered in blood in the process. And then he began to wonder if they might eventually turn their attention to him ! That's not the norm for the average Tweet of the Day. Mind you, it's not entirely unprecedented ... But luckily, I'm not likely to get attacked .... I am invisible ! You can go onto BBC Sounds and listen to all of what he had to say.... all two minutes of it ( I think). The real name of the bird is at the end of this specially designed trail of dots
so you don't see it right away ... . . . . . . . . . . Giant Petrel gee pee jeep.
