I've been counting Common Gulls again it's not a lot of fun the weather's awful, gales and rain and not a glimpse of sun but someone has to do it and currently its ME so I take my "better" jacket and a dinky flask of tea and extra gloves and three spare hats and various costly optics and a dinky-winky camera in case I take some pics so here's the current plot it's quite a gripping sight there's lots of things to spot though some might say it's shite well, that's one point of view and I've tried to do my best to present to all of you this sort of palimpsest ! Well !! We've got a rip-roaring, rootin'-tootin' plot here folks..... Beneath that rather bland-looking graph there lies a maelstrom of issues that need to be confronted ... here are some of them, in order of unimportance ... [a] Are they the same 5, but sometimes a few of them are otherwise engaged ? [bee] What would the regression line look like, if I could be arsed to work it out ? [sea] Would the Standard Deviation by a bit of an eye-opener ? [d] Or would it send everyone into a deep sleep ? [e] Should I spread out the vertical scale so that the graph looks steeper ? [f] Or, conversely, shrink the horizontal scale, with the same effect ? [g] Should I "do" the dots in red ? [h] What about using a logarithmic scale instead ? [eye] I could save ink by not joining up the dots at all. [Jay)] Would Paddy Power be interested in getting people to bet on the next result ? Here's that " more exciting graph" ... just so you can see for yourself how graphs can be more exciting ... I've called it the "MEG" = More Exciting Graph. You have to do those sort of " populist" things in this line of work. After all, Bob Dylan didn't get where he is today by playing the ocarina did he ? No. But the real reason for all this common Gull thing is ... they're so good looking !
